Towards The Setting Sun: An Escape From The Thailand- Burma Railway, 1943 (1982) By James Bradley

 

This is an account of an escape from the Thailand - Burma Railway in 1943 by Prisoners of War, captured by the Japanese Army during World War Two.

 

James Bradley joined the newly formed Territorial Unit of Gunners in Chester, later transferred to the Royal Engineers. He sailed for Singapore with the 18th Division in October 1941. Here he tells of his break out from the Death Railway. Five of the ten who broke out with him died in the attempt. Survivors of other escapes were all executed by the Japanese. He was captured but was interrogated for a year, waiting for execution, and trial by military court.
