The War Collection: Britain's Victory In Europe (1995)

It is January 1945... Germany can no longer stop the advance into her heartland, but in Britain the suffering on the home front through the effects of rationing and the infamous V-bombs targeted at London is immense. In the air, as on the ground, the war grows more intense, culminating in the controversial bombing raid on Dresden on February 13th. In March, Montgomery's army crosses the Rhine and 22,000 paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines. Slowly the noose around Germany tightens. The Nazis seem determined to fight to the last man and to see what is left of the Fatherland destroyed... at last the Allied armies are victorious, the concentration camps are liberated and Hitler commits suicide. But the initial peace is troubled. Stalin clamps down on the lands captured by the Red Army, and the 'Iron Curtain' descends across the continent. The allies response is the final triumph of the Berlin Airlift and the Soviet threat recedes... This historic DVD portrays the feelings of despair and jubilation and the unprecendented celebrations at the war's end in Britain and across the world. The Total War is finally won.
