The Menacing Rise of Japan (1943) By Alexander Howard & Ernest Newman

"Ninety years of crafty statesmanship in pictures."

A 16-page review of the history of Japan followed by 172 pages of photos illustrating that history, but largely concentrating on the Japanese role in the Second World War. A propagandist book, perhaps not British publishings finest hour.

An unrelieved negative view of Japan. Whether "Apeing the West," oppressing the Chinese, worshipping the "Golden Cow," or "Following the Fuhrer," the photos show Japan at its worst, to dispel any doubt about the "Yellow Peril." Instructive in the art of propaganda and stereotyping.
