The Indian Air Force: Trends and Prospects (1995) By George K. Tanham & Marcy Agmon

This report provides an overview of the Indian Air Force (IAF). It is part of a larger effort to examine air forces in a range of important nations to see how those organizations think about the past, current, and future role of air power in support of their national security. Following a short summary of Indian defense policy, the report reviews the birth and development of the independent IAF, analyzing its role in the series of conflicts that India has been engaged in since independence, and discussing some of the doctrinal issues that these conflicts have illuminated. Finally, the report analyzes the evolution of the IAF's force structure and assesses the prospects for Indian air power.
