Sowers Of The Wind (1954) By T. A. G. Hungerford

A Novel of the Allied Occupation of Japan where the author served.

Sowers of the Wind by the renowned TAG Hungerford is about Australian soldiers in Japan during the Occupation with some questionable behaviour.

Even in its day, the book was controversial. It won a prize in 1947 but couldn’t get a publisher till 1954… back then, probably because nobody wanted to know about Australian soldiers behaving badly — only the enemy did that — but it wouldn’t get a publisher now because of the characters’ misogyny, racism, and values that we no longer share including a freely expressed hatred and desire for vengeance.
