Report Of The Special Committee On Nuclear Propulsion: The Safety Of Nuclear Powered Ships (1992) New Zealand Parliament
This is the report to the New Zealand government of the Special Committee on Nuclear Propulsion. The terms of reference of the Committee were: The Special Committee will, by assessing the available literature and knowledge and receiving public submissions, review the safety, environmental and other technical issues relating to nuclear powered ships which would arise if such vessels were to seek entry to certain New Zealand ports. In particular, the Special Committee will give consideration to, and where appropriate make findings on: a) the safety and environmental record of nuclear powered vessels, and in that regard the experience of other countries which have received visits by nuclear powered vessels; b) the regulations, codes and liability regimes adopted by New Zealand and other countries to govern the visits and operations of nuclear powered ships; c) the contingency plans and emergency procedures which have been adopted by New Zealand and other countries to deal with any incident threatening the release of radioactivity from nuclear powered vessels; d) any other technical, safety or environmental considerations relevant to visits by nuclear powered vessels
