Lieutenant-Colonel Basil Jackson (1795-1889) was a British officer who was stationed at Mount Helena during Napoleon's exile. He did several sketches on the life of Napoleon as well as his surroundings, which formed this work.

 

Contents include notes and reminiscences related to the Waterloo Campaign and St Helena.

 

This work was initially printed for private circulation in 1877. This edition is the first printing for general circulation after the publishers asked for permission from the author's daughter, Mrs Simcoe. Edited by R. C. Seaton (1853-1915).

 

This rare unique edition has several family letters from the Simcoes and future descendants enclosed and is inscribed on the front pages.
