Guatemala- Another Vietnam? (1971) By Thomas and Marjorie Melville

Through ignorance and a monstrous lack of understanding the United States is creating the conditions for peasant war (on the scale of Vietnam) throughout Latin America. In Guatemala, for instance, we have the spectacle of an oppressive right-wing military junta which, some years ago, replaced the liberal government of President Arbenz, who planned to tackle land hunger and widespread starvation by expropriating unused areas from the United Fruit Company. How the U.S. government, through the C.I.A., engineered the now-notorious coup which toppled Arbenz is recounted here by two missionaries whose ministry was terminated when they backed the cause of the landless Indian peasantry in Guatemala
