Cavaliers De Napoleon Iliustrations D'Apres Les Tableaux Et Aquarelle De Edouard Detaille (1895) By Masson, Frederic & Edouard Detaille
Jean-Baptiste Édouard Detaille (Paris 5 October 1848 23 December 1912 Paris) was a French academic painter and military artist noted for his precision and realistic detail. He was regarded as the "semi-official artist of the French army".
Napoleon's use of cavalry was devastating and unique. The staff, heavy cavalry, light cavalry, reserve cavalry are studied in minute detail based on records and memoirs. This is not only a definitive study, but a beautifully illustrated example of French lithographic art.
