This documentary profiles the Home Guard, the volunteer service who swore to defend England's shores in the dark days of World War Two. Although providing a source of comedy for long-running sitcom 'Dad's Army', the Home Guard were in fact trained to professional standards, and numbered over 200,000 when disbanded in 1944.
